About the Production
August Wilson's Seven Guitars, part of his monumental Century Cycle, is set in 1948 Pittsburgh, in the backyard where neighbors gather after the funeral of blues guitarist Floyd "Schoolboy" Barton. Rich with music, memory, and the weight of unfulfilled dreams, this Long Beach Playhouse production brought Wilson's vivid community of voices fully to life.
"His expertise and sensitivity to people and their stories are evident in everything he does."
— Madison Mooney, Executive Director, Long Beach Playhouse · BroadwayWorld · 2019
"Seven Guitars is ultimately a three-hour meditation on the black experience, resonant as much today as in 1948."
